Configuring the module

If you have a question, please, read this FAQ or submit it in our forums.

Known problems:

#1 (Only for Joomla 2.5) If you clic on an article of EVO frontpage and then you see the article and still the module too, this is for you.

Since Joomla 1.5, Joomla has changed his behaviour and presents a "problem" with all modules and item menus configured to show articles. In this case, when you are using EVO frontpage set to be shown in a menu item of Joomla 2.5 that is configured to show articles (for example articles like a blog) and you clic an article shown by EVO frontpage, you will be seen booth; the article and the module. (For ie: you are viewing your homepage, wich only has my module, so you can see some articles in it, you clic one of them and now you see the entire article plus still my module.)

To avoid this, you need to create a new hidden menu item for each category you have, following these steps:

1. Create a new menu (Menus -> Menu manager -> Add new menu), set a Title (like Menu for categories) and any menu type (like catmenu).

2. Inside that menu, we need to create each Menu item (Menus -> Menu for categories -> Add new menu item) and select type (Category blog) and menu title (for ie: News). At right tabs, select one of your categories (like News). Do this with each category you have articles to be shown in EVO frontpage.

3. The end. Now, if you clic on an article shown by EVO frontpage , you will be reading the entire content of the article without seeing my module. Note that the name set to the menu item will be part of the URL, like www.mysite/news/article1.

#2 If you have activated EVO frontpage in a certain page of your site and now other modules or animated addons don't work, you must go to module parameters, go to Advanced, at right, and set Jquery option to NO. With this setted up, you won't be abble to use animated tabs on EVO frontpage module.

A good piece of advice:

(The problem #1 can be solved with this method too). If you have some issues showing the module, you can easily show the module inside an article, so you can move the module simply moving the article. To do that, go to EVO frontpage module settings and in module position set a position that your template hasn't got, like "evofrontpage", then, create an article, write a title like "Article for RVO frontpage" and set it Uncategorised and Featured (Yes). In content of the article, only write "loadposition evofrontpage" (With "{" at start and "}" at end). The last step is to create or modify a menu item, for example, the existing "Home" item, wich type we are going to change to only show "Single Article" (we select the article created before "Article for EVO frontpage") and set the Article options at right, like not to show title, author, etc...

Go to Home page and see the result!

How can I re-generate the thumbnails?

Maybe, you are changing the size of thumbnails but it uses the old smaller / bigger one. If this happens, go to your hosting files admin and delete images into /images/stories/evofp. Then, thumbnails will be re-generated.

It doesn't create thumbnails on localhost.

The module doesn't work 100% on localhost because it searches for images in a real web hosting. It should create all the thumbnails when will be installed into a web hosting on internet.

It doesn't create thumbnails.

Be sure that images you are using in your articles are are hosted on your /images folder, and that images in your articles are placed in Introtext, before the Read more. Maybe you don't want to show an image in Introtext in your articles, but you want to generate thumbnails...due to behaviour changes in Joomla! 2.5 the only solutions for this issue is to insert an invisible image before the Read more, with an invisible HTML code like this: <!-- <img src="image_url_here" /> -->

Where must be hosted the images which I put into articles to be generated as thumbnails?

To best performance, images on your articles must be hosted into /images folder. (However, in Joomla! 1.5 module version, files can be hosted where you want; coming soon to Joomla! 2.5 version)

Can I make a Menu with it?

Yes, if you want to make a Menu with this module, like the example we have at left, follow these steps:

- Create a new category to host the articles of next step.
- Create an article (or many as menu items you want). The title of the article must be the title you want to show like menu item (For example: News). You can add an image into the article and/or text to be shown in menu item.
- Create new Menu and the items you want.
- Go to EVO frontpage Module admin page and set to show only the category created before.
- Now, when you clic on item menu, you are actually going to an article, so now, you only need to redirect from this article to the item menu you have created in step 2. You can do it through a redirection code or an extension. For example, for Joomla! 1.5, I have used the plugin SBD 301 Redirect.

Can I change font size, colors, etc?

Of course; you can modify it by the general way changing the CSS file, at /modules/mod_evo_frontpage/css folder. You can help yourself using addon for Firefox like Firebug. Make a backup of CSS file before modifying.

Hi,
I cannot find any contact details/form - so I'm resorting to this to find some assistance.
I love your module (mini FrontPageEvolut ion) and am using it with a site I'm developing (for fun and experience mostly)
I'm using J2store for the site which you use articles to put in your products. and Mini-FrontPageE voution is just a wonderful way to display the products. Only snag is - that the shopping cart doesnot display on the pages where Mini-frontPageE volution. I've emailed them regarding this. Their reply was that J2store uses the Afterdisplay event of the content plugin. They suggest that I ask you if the module could be customise to include the plugin event.
Hope it is not something too difficult - as I think these 2 modules will work so nicely together.
Thank you
Regards
Marianna

Hi Marianna!
You're right, I need to create a forum soon.

Could you tell me which version of Joomla are you using? and the url of your site?

I'm not an expert on Joomla, so pretty sure I won't be able to solve it, sorry, but I promise you I will investigate it, however I have not lot of time these days.
I have no clear information about AfterDisplay; it seems to be a code in content plugin that set a position inside articles content, it is? Could you ask and tell me all the files and lines where J2store uses this function?

At the moment, I don't find a reason which would do both not working simultaneously.

Please, try to configure the module in a different position that J2store, but in same page to have one more piece of information.

Oh, something more; why do you want to use both? I mean that J2store is similar to Mini Frontpage Evolution but with different options and buttons. If you explain me that, maybe we can find an alternative way to solve the problem.

Thank you!

Hi Pacificador
Thank you for coming back to me. :)
I'm using Joomla 2.5.4. The site is still on my localhost (hoping to iron out the last pieces before making it live)
J2Store is a simple shopping site. You can add your products via an article. and there's a field to place your price, and extra attributes if necessary. Hence using MiniFrontPage Evolution works great to show my "products" (articles)
I've made a position above the "main component" for Mini FrontPage Evolution. and the "J2Shoping cart" has a different spot on the right. So it should not the fact that they are competing for the same possition. I must be honest with you, I think I'm a little too new @ Joomla to understand this. I Haven't either heard of "AfterDisplay."
Maybe you could try install J2Store on a test box to see how it works. The problem comes in when I sent the J2 Store Cart module. It shows properely on pages where MiniFrontPage is not being used.
I hope to have something up by next week... Will post you url then so you can see what I mean.
Thank you once again for this cool extention. :P

Me again...
I think I may have come across a bug.
Using Joomla 2.5:
I've been making different category (and sub categories)
Then creating the module - and selecting the various category - in the different levels.
But I find that articles from different categories are showing - sometimes above the category selected.
Thanks for any help/suggestions.
Regards
Marianna

Oops - my mistake -
I have a created different modules for the each menu / category
I seemed to have missed selecting the "only show on these pages". Some were still set to "show on all pages".
Problem resolved.
Thanks.

Hi,

You are right, that is the best and simple option!

But your another problem is still blowing? I will need to install and try the J2store, but in some days, please :P

Thank you!

Hi Pacificador.
I think - don't worry too much about the other problem (with J2store) - I've made a "work around" by displaying the shopping cart on all pages - but rather as a menu item... Then just the shopping cart shows - so it works.
I think - if this site will grow to something bigger - I may have to try something a bit more "advanced" than J2Stores (which is a simple & easy - uncomplicated extention) :sigh:
But thank you for you feedback & support.
I really think this is a great extention.

1.Why some of my image doesn't appear as thumbnail?

2.can i move the read more button to bottom of the introtext rather the thumbnail ?

3. How to select the image for thumbnail?

please help.

Hello Embryorice,

Have you got your images hosted in images/stories folder? If they are external, they won't be shown!

Read more button is always at bottom I think... if not, please, take a screenshot.

The thumbnail is generated from the last image of your article.

EDIT: I see your site quite well!

Ask me again if you have more doubts.
See you!

Hi,
I'm making a website on my localhost. With both Minifp and minifp-e the modules only pick up one image from one article no matter where the the thumbnail is stored. Its the same article. I simply cannot fathom why this would do that. The images are all .jpg's and all other articles who without thumbs. Same thing happens when I manually make the thumbs.

I've probably missed something simple but I have no idea what. Any suggestions?

Hi Dennis,

It can be ordered by modification date at the moment:
Published up is the date that you can set when writing an article (you can set 2 different dates; Created Date and Publish Date, so it's the second one).

To show articles by modified date you can do something: when modifying an article, just modify too the Publish date to your current date.

I hope this help you!

How do I integrate K2 items MIni frontpage evolution, but it usually does with native Joomla articles. Thank you.

Hi Jairo,

I don't know if it's possible to show K2 items, sorry... I think it only shows Joomla articles.
Maybe, you can create a Joomla Article with a redirection to your K2 item, so Mini Frontpage Evolution will show the personalized Joomla article and when you clic it, you will be reading the K2 item.

See you!

Is there any way to choose the thumbnail shown or it's always the first one?
Reply | Reply with quote | Quote

0 # Pacificador 2012-08-20 21:19
Hi Carlos, ¿eres español?

It always shows the first one (or last one, I'm note sure right now), but maybe there can be a chance if you don't want to change the order of your images...
If you find a code to write or insert an invisible code into your articles, you can insert with the invible code the image code you want to show, so the module will get your invisle image to be shown, and when reading the article, it won't be there! (I hope it will work).

Sorry and regards.

Hi Roberto,

I have edited this message: you can edit the date format by going to file /mini_frontpage_evolution/modules/mod_mini_frontpage_evolution/mod_mini_frontpage_evolution.xml

Search line wich contains "date_format" (Push Ctrl + F to search) and modify the date format like you want.

Tell me something, see you!

Hello Sir..

I just purchased your product. I've installed it along with Shape 5's Corporate Reponse Template. This uses the Vertex framework as well as S5 Flex Menu.. It would seem that whenever I turn the module containing your plugin on, the drop down ability of the Flex menu breaks. If I turn your program off, the flex menu works. Any help you can provide would be wonderful.

Hello Jay,

Are you asking about Mini Frontpage Evolution, it isn't? I'm not English and I associate "to purchase" with buying with money, and this is free.
About your problem, I only think about modifying my module configuration parameter "Load JQuery"; try all the options.
However, it should work with any template or plugin because this module is not a plugin or component, it's a module which uses Joomla functions...

Maybe you could contact Flex Menu developers and tell me the result (I can't find enough information about it). Any webpage to see the example, link to forum support of developers, etc, could help a little more.

See you soon!

Hi again Chris,

For JOOMLA 1.5:
You can modify the "Other articles" head by going to "/modules/mod_m ini_frontpage_e volution/css/st yle.css" and modify color value of ".minifpe-anoth erlinks {"
And add color value after ".minifpe ul li a {", something like this:
".minifpe ul li a {
color:#FFFF00;
}"

For JOOMLA 2.5:
It depends of the module style you are using. The best way, specially if you don't know which style you are using, that you follow these steps in all folders inside "/themes/(...)/assets/css/style.css".
This example is for default style, but for the others, it's the same, only changing the folder:
To modify the color of "Other Articles" title, go to "/modules/mod_m ini_frontpage_e volution/themes /default/assets /css/style.css" and change color value.

For the color links of each article in the Other articles list, you must add the next rule into same file:
".minifrontpage-default .mfp-other-arti cle-inner ul li a {
color: #FFFF00 !important;
margin-left: 10px;
list-style: disc!important;
}"
and modify the color with wich you want.

I hope this help you! ;)

hi,

i put this in the forum, but i'm not sure if anyone has seen it yet, so i figured i'd put it here too...

i just set up the module following the configuration instructions perfectly, but it's not working...i can see the module, but no articles show up in it.

i've enabled the module & made sure it's in the left position (basically the only position my template has), but it's still not working. i noticed that on this page the creator mentioned enabling a plugin, but i didn't get a plugin with my download (at least i can't find one).

can someone please tell me what to do next? i really need this module for my site!

thank you! :)

Hello, good module but if I may suggest an enhancement: it would be good to have the possibility to change the CSS file by creating a custom version without touching the original file that comes by default with the module. Reason: in case of future upgrades, the customization would not be lost (the webmaster doesn't need to remember to reapply changes as well).
